For any who may wish to follow a message in scripture, consider reading and studying the Almond, which is a figure, a signification of resurrection in the scriptures. The scriptures paint a great message using the Almond. It begins with Jacob fleeing Esau, leaving Beersheba (well of the seven fold oath/ symbol of the word among the nations) and coming to a place called Luz. Jacob places his head upon a stone/stones of the place and sleeps. He has a vision of a ladder with the Lord at the top, and the angels of God ascending and descending (in that order) upon the stone. He hears blessings pronounced upon his seed. (The seed is Christ, as also was Abraham’s blessed seed Christ). He wakes and pours oil upon the stone (a picture of Christ) and says this place is the gate of heaven and the house of the Lord (which Christ is). He adds the name Bethel (house of God) to the name Luz, and afterward the place is called “Luz which is Bethel”. Luz means “Almond”. So the phrase “Almond which is the house of God” is formed in the scriptures. It is interesting that stones and stone are both used. Jesus spoke that a seed of wheat abides alone until it is buried and raised, but it is not raised alone. In time, Jacob leaves Haran and crosses back over Jordan with his large household. During a long sojourn, enmity develops in Joseph’s brothers. They are envious of his close relationship with Jacob, and they hate him and can not speak peacefully to him because of his dreams. Joseph did not fabricate his dreams. God gave him the dreams. His dreams were not interpreted by his brothers, or Jacob, correctly. They took the dreams to mean that Joseph would rule over them. But a sheaf bowing to Joseph’s sheaf does not imply subjugation. It is a message that the Word in Joseph was superior to the familial and patriarchal vision (word) of inheriting dirt and ruling the household. A sheaf represents bread. Your word is your bread. The 11 stars, the sun and moon bowing to Joseph’s star also is a picture of the superior vision in Joseph. A key to understanding this message is revealed when Joseph, because of hatred and envy is so despised, that his brethren decide to murder him. He is somewhat rescued when at Reuben’s bidding, they throw him into a pit to die rather than kill him outright. They take his coat of many colors, bloody it, and take it to Jacob as evidence that Joseph was killed by some wild beast. Joseph was taken up out of the pit and sold into slavery, eventually in Egypt. In a figure, the “star” of Joseph as a son of Jacob died in that pit. When Joseph came up out of the pit, he became a figure of resurrection. A “star” of Jacob died, and was raised a different star…figure of the Bright and Morning Star. Jesus said heaven and earth would pass away, but His Word is eternal. Joseph’s dream of the sheaves bowing to his sheaf is a God given vision of Christ, the eternal Word, in you. The flesh and blood vision will fail. When told the dreams of sun, moon and stars, Jacob did not look up into the night sky. [Isa 13:10 KJV] 10 For the stars of heaven and the constellations thereof shall not give their light: the sun shall be darkened in his going forth, and the moon shall not cause her light to shine. [Isa 60:19 KJV] 19 The sun shall be no more thy light by day; neither for brightness shall the moon give light unto thee: but the LORD shall be unto thee an everlasting light, and thy God thy glory. [Mat 24:29 KJV] 29 Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken: Jacob, now sojourning in Canaan, believed that Joseph was dead. He heard that there was grain in Egypt and decided to send his sons (except Benjamin) to Egypt to buy grain from Pharaoh because of a great famine. We have all read the account and need not go into great detail, but Jacob had no idea that he was not dealing with Pharaoh. He was dealing with his own son Joseph, whom he thought dead. When Jacob was forced to send to Egypt the second time to buy grain, he sent money, a little balm, and a little honey, spices, and myrrh, nuts, and almonds. There are many things to look into in these events such as the failing of Jacob’s bread (sheaf) and his household being sustained unwittingly by Joseph’s sheaf (bread/word). But I will follow the Almond. This is the first mention of an Almond coming to Egypt. Remember, the scriptures are they which testify of Christ. I am less concerned with botanical history than with the scriptural crafting of spiritual truth. In a figure, the Almond and what it signified as per Jacob’s experience at Luz-which-is-Bethel, the house of God, the Gate of Heaven, the Anointed Stone…came out of Jacob and came to Joseph in Egypt. The Resurrection, in a figure, came to Joseph in Egypt. It would be hundreds of years later, after cruel bondage, that Jacob’s house now sojourning in Egypt, would be delivered out of the house of bondage. Joseph in dying, had made his brethren sware in an oath, that they would not leave him in Egypt, but “God will surely visit you, and ye shall carry up my bones from hence”. And indeed, when after many generations, Moses lead the children out, “Moses took the bones of Joseph with him: for he had straitly sworn the children of Israel, saying, God will surely visit you; and ye shall carry up my bones away hence with you”. The word “bones” is the Hebrew word “being”. Hence the oath, “You will carry my being up with you”. It is the preaching of the resurrection. [Isa 26:19-21 KJV] 19 Thy dead [men] shall live, [together with] my dead body shall they arise. Awake and sing, ye that dwell in dust: for thy dew [is as] the dew of herbs, and the earth shall cast out the dead. 20 Come, my people, enter thou into thy chambers, and shut thy doors about thee: hide thyself as it were for a little moment, until the indignation be overpast. 21 For, behold, the LORD cometh out of his place to punish the inhabitants of the earth for their iniquity: the earth also shall disclose her blood, and shall no more cover her slain. From these things revealed in scripture, you may also understand that the exodus itself is a figure, a signification, of the true exodus, which is The Resurrection. Jesus said “I am the Resurrection”. He is the Exodus. He is also the Israel of God, the true Israel, and no shadow. When Paul said the words, “blessings upon the Israel of God”, he was speaking of the Israel defined in Matthew 2. [Mat 2:13-15 KJV] 13 And when they were departed, behold, the angel of the Lord appeareth to Joseph in a dream, saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and be thou there until I bring thee word: for Herod will seek the young child to destroy him. 14 When he arose, he took the young child and his mother by night, and departed into Egypt: 15 And was there until the death of Herod: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, Out of Egypt have I called my son. For this prophesy to have been fulfilled in Jesus, it is not possible that it was fulfilled in any people and at any time prior. It was only foreshadowed. And in the shadow of things when Moses was coming to Egypt to lead the people out, he was met in the desert by his own brother Aaron. In Aaron’s hand was a walking stick, a staff. It was made of Almond, and was a dead branch cut off of an Almond tree, which in scripture came into Egypt from Jacob, representing the seed of promise spoken by God to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. This staff was used miraculously more times in leading the children out of Egypt and until crossing Jordan, than was Moses’ staff. During the exodus, Moses was told to build a tabernacle. The first thing prescribed was an ark wherein were to be placed God given testimonies. The ark was to be in the holiest place behind a veil. In the first tabernacle called the holy place was a man made lamp stand. It was of a single beaten work of Gold and was made to resemble a fruiting tree. You guessed it. It was to resemble an Almond branch. On the branch were eleven bowls corresponding to the eleven sons of Jacob. There are eleven because, true to Joseph’s dreams, Joseph’s star is no longer reckoned in Jacob, but is a different star. Seven bowls were light giving lamps, four were non light giving bowls. Seven sons of the camp were born to Rachel and Leah (wives), four to Bilhah and Zilpah (slaves). This is not a message of discrimination, but a spiritual depiction of the fact that sons of bondage can not be heirs together with sons of promise, as was revealed in Abraham, Sarah, Hagar, Ishmael and Isaac.( Any appearance of discrimination is wiped away when it is understood that all may be heirs together with Christ by faith, no matter their genetic origins). This same picture is painted in the book of Revelation where the seven stars correspond to the seven free sons, the one like unto the Son of Man with the seven stars in his right hand corresponds to Joseph, and the four fallen stars of Rev.12 correspond to the fallen house of bondage.(The vision is based upon the stars of Joseph’s dreams, where a third of them is four). The God given testimonies that came to be in the ark were the tables of law written with the finger of God, the God given manna hidden in a golden pot, and Aaron’s rod. Until Arron’s rod came to be in the ark, the testimony of the lamp stand was prophetic. But when the rod of Aaron was raised, leafed, budded and with a generation of Almonds, the meaning of the golden lamp stand was fulfilled. A dead branch of an Almond that came to Egypt by Jacob, eventually is raised again together with a generation raised with it, and in that condition passes by the man made lamp stand, and enters into the holiest place. All of this story of the Almond tells us that Christ is the resurrection, and that by faith, the Israel of God is Christ and all that are raised together with Him in faith. If Christ is in you by faith, Messiah is in you, the Resurrection is in you, the Father’s dwelling is in you, the heir of all things is in you. All are by faith. And by faith , you are made an heir, a joint heir together with Christ, in everything He is. The Almond is a powerful study in scripture.
