The scriptures often use familiar, well known things to depict the invisible and unseen things. In Judges 9, a parable is spoken to a people who reject the Lord’s ways and look to install a leader over them. The parable uses the Olive tree, the Fig and the Vine. This is a figure of the fullness of God. The Olive is Spirit, the Fig is the Father, the Vine is the Son. ( I am the vine). In the parable, the trees of the field ask the Olive, the Fig and the Vine to rule over them. Each in succession, refuses. The reason given is that in order to do so, Each would have to give up something. The Lord would have to lay aside who and what He is in order to rule in that way.
But the olive tree said unto them, Should I leave my fatness, wherewith by me they honor God and man, and go to be promoted over the trees?
But the fig tree said unto them, Should I forsake my sweetness, and my good fruit, and go to be promoted over the trees?
And the vine said unto them, Should I leave my wine, which cheers God and man, and go to be promoted over the trees?
I call to mind, how that Jesus, the Vine, refused this way:
When Jesus therefore perceived that they would come and take him by force, to make him a king, he departed again into a mountain himself alone. (John 6:15)
In the parable, the trees of the earth turn to the bramble, who agrees to rule over them. This is a rejection of the Lord’s way of dwelling and walking with you from within your inner man. The bramble is designed to inflict pain and tear flesh. You may from this, understand that it is a symbol of harsh authoritarians and authoritarian systems. People today need to take heed to what they are asking for. God has given this nation a system by which the government is to operate by consent of the governed. If once the people are duped by thorns, whether red or blue, life will become very grievous. It will be exactly as the parable in Judges 9, where many sons are killed to make one evil son a king. In another parable, Jesus spoke of the seed of the Kingdom falling among thorns, which choked the word.
Jesus, at Cana of Galilee, did a miracle by which He first showed his glory. He changed six jars of water, into wine. This was a picture of Christ (The Vine) in you, and that by the revelation of the Father. This is the most valuable, indeed the only really valuable commodity on the planet. Without it, no individual will ever see life. There is no cause, no argument, no movement; not civil, social or religious that is remotely worth losing what is symbolized by what was done at Cana. To enjoin and engage yourself in the thorn, comes at a cost. You will have to leave the New Wine if you wish to be involved in a system of the bramble.
For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul? (Matthew 16:26)
